Call for Papers: International Conference on Social and Human Development Outcomes of Education

12-14 November 2008, Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya

The conference has been conceptualized within the framework of an ongoing the Research Consortium on Educational Outcomes and Poverty (RECOUP). In Kenya, the research project focuses on the social and human development outcomes of education, analyzing the nature and impact of educational outcomes on poverty and well-being, health and fertility, disability, as well as gender relations and citizenship. There is also a strand on public and private partnerships (PPPs) in the financing of education. The purpose of this conference is to offer platform for global sharing pertinent to these concerns.

We welcome quality abstracts, focusing on, but not limited to the following themes and topics:

Education, Youth, Gender and Citizenship
  • Multiple identities, and education for local, national and global citizenship
  • Gender policy arrangements and education for youth in sub Sahara African countries
  • Education, youth and national identity
  • Social values, education and poverty alleviation
  • Human rights, inclusive education and citizenship
  • Government and non-governmental organisations' responses to rural/urban Youth empowerment
  • Youth transitions, skills training and vocational education
Education, Health and Fertility
  • Education and fertility behaviour
  • Education, children's and women's health practices
  • Education and nutrition practices
  • Education and women's empowerment in relation to health and fertility behaviour
Education and Disability
  • Global influences and local contexts in determining educational outcomes for persons with disability
  • Social outcomes of education in disability
  • Economic outcomes of education in disability
  • Education and social-political participation of persons with disability
Public and Private Partnerships (PPPs) in Education
  • PPPs models: Promising initiatives and shortcomings
  • Replicability of build operate transfer (bots) in the social sector: education as a launching pad
  • The dual track phenomenon as a window to PPPs in education: Exploring the frontiers
  • Demand side financing and PPPs: Limitations in education
  • Franchising in PPPs: How others have succeeded

Interested authors should send their abstracts (soft copies only) not exceeding 350 words to: recoupkenya@ku.ac.ke and copy to recoupkenya@gmail.com. The deadline for submission of abstracts has been extended to 15 July 2008. Please indicate whether you prefer to make an oral or poster presentation, or just to attend the conference.

Authors of short-listed abstracts will be notified as soon as their abstracts have been reviewed.
