RECOUP - Kenya

In 2006-07 RECOUP researchers at Kenyatta University focused on several activities, which include the following:

  • identifying and selecting research sites
  • building rapport with local communities, including community leaders and local administrators
  • producing, piloting and refining research instruments for Youth, Gender & Citizenship project as well as Community projects
  • mapping and conducting household censuses to generate a socio-economic profile of households in the researched communities
  • developing capacity of its researchers
  • facilitating the National Advisory Committee meeting
  • producing papers for the RECOUP symposium as part of UKFIET OXCON Conference, September 2007

RECOUP - Pakistan

enumeratpakThe RECOUP team at Mahbub-Ul-Haq Human Development Centre (MHHDC) has completed household survey in two provinces in Pakistan as part of quantitative studies. Some 1094 households were covered and enumerated during January - March 2007. Data analysis is now underway which will result in creation of a reliable and comparable database of household level data on economic and social conditions of households in Pakistan.

Key activities within the qualitative survey included design of the household census questionnaire, hiring and training of the field researchers for qualitative studies, selection of rural and urban locations, and the beginning of household census in Punjab.

The research team has been able to establish strong networks with governmental as well as non-governmental stakeholders in the education sector. The Centre is planning to hold a symposium for key stakeholders in the education sector.

RECOUP - India

Skiils educational outcomes povertyQualitative sub-theme health and fertility outcomes of education has been completed and a paper based on preliminary analysis of findings was presented at UKFIET. The skills project is now underway with the fieldwork completed.

The team is now making preparations for the next phase of research, a survey of 1000 households in the above two provinces, to generate a panel data on education, health, and income status of households.

RECOUP - Ghana

RECOUP research findings are beginning to attract interest of other agencies working in wkshpghanaeducation in Ghana. Thus, Associates for Change has been asked to make presentations at the forthcoming International Conference on Aid Effectiveness, in September 2008. AFC was also asked to review the Government's curriculum on Citizenship Education in August 2008.
