Welcome to the portal to the Research Consortium on Educational Outcomes and Poverty (RECOUP)

This portal provides you with information about the activities of the Research Consortium on Educational Outcomes and Poverty, including its partners, and progress with our research activities in Ghana, Kenya, India, and Pakistan. It also provides access to full-text downloadable copies of our publications and project documents.

What we do

RECOUP is a research partnership of seven institutions in the UK, Africa and South Asia funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and led by the University of Cambridge.

Our research is examining the impact of education on the lives and livelihoods of people in developing countries, particularly those living in poorer areas and from poorer households. Its purpose is to generate new knowledge that will improve education and poverty reduction strategies in developing countries, through an enhanced recognition of education's actual and potential role.

Our projects

Between 2005-2010 RECOUP is conducting six collaborative projects:

  • Disability and poverty study
  • Youth, gender & citizenship study
  • Health & fertility study
  • Skills acquisition and its impact upon lives and livelihoods
  • Aid partnerships and educational outcomes
  • Public-private partnerships in the provision of education
